Great kit, components fit very well Review by Dan

I'll start by saying I'm reasonably new to guns, but I've always been mechanically inclined. Part of the reason that I bought this kit is because I love the idea of it being off the radar; I also like mechanical things, so it would allow me to really understand how the pistol works. (I read the Wikipedia article about the 1911 history and design, and that helped the intrigue).

Kit showed up in 3-5 days of order, I ordered the Government Tactical frame, and I ordered the jig as well. I didn't race to complete the build, because I was doing it as a hobby project. Everything went very well, although I would like to see the instructions also include the assembly of the gun, rather than just using the jig, although the blog has very good detailed instructions and photos.

Once finished cutting rails and the barrel seat, and drilling the sear and hammer pin holes, I assembled the pistol and took it to the range for trial firing. My other pistols are .38 Special/357 Magnum revolvers., so was curious about recoil and operation of the 1911. I omitted the install of the plunger tube and the sights for the initial range visit.

Things worked great, so I dis-assembled and sent parts off for Cerakote. (+1 for www.Tomscustomguns.com !) It came out fantastic, I love the gun! Haven't had the chance yet to get back to the range, but I'm sure it will work fine. Great fit on all the parts, minor fitting that needed to be done for the grip safety, and for the thumb safety. I also followed recommendations on the blog, and purchased tools at Brownells to work the trigger. I don't have a trigger gauge, but probably now has a 4 lb pull.

Will be ordering a couple more kits soon; I want to have my wife and adult son each build one (and I may get another one for me, just because the process was fun! )

I did order the plunger tube staking tool, 1911 tool kit from Brownells, I recommend both, and also highly recommend the jig for working the sear and hammer and stones for honing. Since I'm mechanical, I always like having the proper tools to do a proper job, and now am well set up for more builds. Thanks Stealth Arms!
